Lounge lizard looks for luxe steals
by My Paper|14 June 2013

The $3-million Russian-themed Dom Lounge at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) epitomises the idea of luxe.

There, seats are clothed in velvet and walls are decorated with red-and-gold wallpaper.

And drinks? Well, those average $300 for a premium bottle of liquor and $20 for a cocktail.

On the upside, one gets personalised service - one server devoted to each table.

"I've always wanted to do something decadent. MBS is the crown jewel of luxury. It made perfect sense to house Dom in MBS, because diamonds and diamonds go together," said Mr Carver, the lounge's owner.

He loves the finer things in life, but he won't turn his nose up at a markdown.

"I got this full Lanvin suit in January at Hilton Shopping Gallery," he said of the suit he wore to the My Paper photo shoot.

"It was half-priced, at $3,000.

That's remarkable. I love it because it is elegant yet comfortable."

He enjoys sales, especially when he can get deals on swanky gadgets.

His MacBook Air, for instance, was bought last year for $1,200, down from $1,300.

When asked about fashion for men, he said that one must "never underestimate the power of a classic pair of cuff links".

"It makes or breaks the elegance of an outfit," he said.

"Hermès has great ones in rose gold, which is my favourite shade, because my first pair, given to me by my dad when I was 13, was in rose gold. It's a fond memory for me," he said.
