Singapore wine enthusiasts can bid for French wines at international auction
by Plush|28 November 2013

Singapore - Wine enthusiasts and collectors in Singapore can now have the opportunity to bid for barrels of wine from the vineyard of Hospices de Beaune in Burgundy, France at their annual wine auction on Nov 17.

International auction house Christie's has been organising the annual event since 2005 and local wine appreciators can place an offer through their online site Chrisitie's LIVE or via telephone.

46 different red and white wines will be offered at different price points at the auction which began in 1859. Interested bidders can buy from any quantity they desire starting from one barrel which can yield around 288 bottles of wine.

After purchasing the barrel, the buyer can choose to let the wine mature between one to years before it is bottled. They can even personalise the bottle if they wish.

Christie's will also help advise the bidder on the choice of a negociant (tender) in Burgundy, one of the wine capitals of the world.

Majority of the funds collected at the auction will be directed towards the services at Hospices de Beaune which cater to the sick and the elderly, and the maintenance of their historic buildings like the Hotel-Dieu and art works at the estate.

Hospices de Beaune was founded in 1443 as a hospital with a mission to care for the sick and the elderly. Today, the organisation has grown to encompass a medical research centre, a school for nurses and a vineyard.
