Tatler celebrates the Who's Who of Singapore

Even in lists, there are lists within.

Should I say that again?

In the Tatler Singapore The 300 List, which lists the Who's Who of Singapore, there are, this year, categories within.

In Arts and Entertainment, 20; Captains of Industry, 80; Chief Connectors, 40; 50 apiece in Lifestyle Leaders and Serving the People; and the remaining 60 make up the Social Glitterati.

Obviously, there are those who could easily fit into any of these categories all at once.

A captain of industry who is also a chief connector and serves his people, for example.

Families abound and a clutch of ministers come under Serving the People.

Socialites?

Knowing where to slot who is fretwork known only to Mr Gilbert Cheah, MD of the monthly magazine and its world of perfect soirees, renown class menus and stunning homes.

He would share only that they are "people of influence, not just for their position, but people who effect big change, in the country, and for others".

He added: "We have dropped socialites known only for their partying."

Ouch.

But of course. Life is more than just the Birkin, the Kelly, the Loeffler Randall. Ah, gotcha there.

Loeffler Randall makes boots, boots so sexual, a man delivering lunch to its offices was so turned on by an employee wearing them, he... never mind, you had to be there.

Back to The 300 List, 2011's is its sixth year, marked by cocktails at the Ink Club Bar, Fairmont Hotel, where 150 cramped in style for drinks and canapes.

It was refreshing to see a few new faces, like newlyweds Mark and Tiara Shaw, still in honeymoon mode, and the next generation of society, such as Dr Caroline Low-Heah's daughter Lizzie.

"She's just got her O levels," the proud mum said.

Elizabeth Heah, 16, plans to study medicine and specialise in oncology.

She was in a Guess dress - mum was in Valentino - and said, "I want to be a trendsetter whose statement is 'you don't have to be crazy to stand out'."

Unless, of course, it's crazy-sexy-cool.
