Secret's out: Rare diamonds to be produced in Singapore

Singapore - One of the world's largest producers of Type IIa diamonds, IIa Technologies is going to 'grow diamonds' at Singapore's first highly sophisticated diamond growing facility.

Established in 2005, the company based in Singapore had first started with research to enable diamond growth in commercially viable quantities or quality. Eight years later, they were finally able to commercially produce colourless, gem-quality, single crystal Type IIa diamonds with the Microwave Plasma Chemical Vapour Deposition (MPCVD) process.

Mr Vishal Mehta, managing director of the company, said: "We are delighted to launch our 'mine' to grow diamonds in Singapore. Singapore's open, pro-business environment and highly developed R&D and physical infrastructure have been essential to IIa Tech's research and development effort."

He also added that the company has the capability to provide various specifications as required by the customer and thus provide a consistent supply, in terms of quantity and quality.

The Singapore-based company will be able to produce new product lines that have the potential to innovate and contribute to the development of the diamond industry around the world.

According to IIa Technologies, their diamond growing process is done in a controlled environment, and through a safe and ecologically friendly process.
