English garden & oversized florals rule at the Mulberry SS14 show

The Wedgwood teacup invitations, an English stately house backdrop and green turf flooring all set the mood for a tea party that was Mulberry's Spring Summer 2014 show.

Model du jour Cara Delevingne opened the Mulberry show in a smart brocade swing coat with Bermuda shorts, both in a grey floral brocade that would feature in the following looks. The floral wallpaper print that could be found in little girls bedrooms all over the UK shook away its saccharine sweet and slightly old-fashioned English connotation when cut into a straight, boxy 60s shape for a more polished look.

As has become the norm for Mulberry under Hill's helm, the new "it" bag made its debut on the catwalk, this season on Delevingne's arm. This season sees the sleek and sharp Kensal taking centre stage. A briefcase styled bag, its sleek shape would fit the iPad perfectly, a nod to how important gadgets are to design in these technology-enabled times.

Turbo - a bulldog - also made its way down the runway twice, in matching outfits with the model it was paired up with and provided some light-hearted humour when it stopped to sniff at Alexa Chung in the front row. This isn't the first time Mulberry has had canine models in its shows - adorable pugs also modeled in Autumn Winter 2010.

Alternating sheer and opaque stripes took over the runway in sheath tops and skirts that for a consistent top to toe look - even the bags were striped - for a sophisticated ladies that lunch, or in this case ladies that do tea, vibe.

An oversize optic floral print was interspersed with monochrome outfits and leather pieces. Sportswear inspired details like a line of snap buttons that ran down the seams of the wide legged pants and skirts provided a balance to the feminine prints. Another simple daisy print also appeared in the collared-shirt and pajama pant combination seen in earlier looks but this navy blue variation would be easily translated into the fashion crowd's work wardrobe.

Emma Hill appeared to do her last wave for Mulberry, and signaled the end of another successful collection and designer era in the British fashion house's history. As we wait for Hill's successor to be announced, her efforts in making over Mulberry will not be forgotten so quickly.
