Singapore - Ever wondered what a household shopping list for a super rich person might contain? How about a 22-carat gold toilet paper for their toiletries needs?
Australian company Toilet Paper Man has managed to produce a 3-ply roll that is made from gold and is embellished with 22-carat gold flakes throughout the luxurious product.
To add this item of luxury to your bathroom, one has to fork out a whooping AU$1,376,900.00 (S$1.6 million).
On their website, Toilet Paper Man claims this golden toiletry is 'the most expensive toilet paper roll in the world', and will even elevate 'your behind' to another level of sophistication as the gold flakes will unravel from the roll as you use it. Toilet Paper Man even added that is '100 per cent usable and safe'.
According to news site International Business Times, the lavish roll of toilet paper even comes with a bottle of champagne with the purchase. Currently, the Australia online company, which produces daily household items such as garbage bags and laundry detergent, only has one such golden toilet roll in stock. It is unclear if Toilet Paper Man will be manufacturing more, as the present item has not been sold.
This toilet paper might just go well with the golden toilet which was unveiled in Haikou, China in 2011, reported Chinese entertainment site TheShanghaiist.com. The golden toilet bowl was presented at the 11th World Toilet Summit and Expo and cost a lot lesser than the gold toilet roll at 1.28 million yuan (S$260,000).
However, this is not the most expensive toilet ever recorded. Frances Perraudin from US magazine Time's online site revealed that the most expensive toilet hails from Hong Kong. The solid 24-carat gold toilet built in 2001 has the precious metal covering everything in the restroom, even its sink, tiles and doors, reported Perraudin.
At the time of the report, the gold bathroom was worth US$29 million (S$36 million). The luxurious idea came about when jewellery Lam Sai-wing wanted to recreate Russian communist leader Lenin's who had supposedly said that 'the most appropriate thing to do with gold would be to build public toilets out of it'. The golden washroom is not just for display, but a fully functionally restroom with a reported state-of-the-art automatic flushing system.
Embellishing gold on non luxury items is suddenly becoming a trend. These days, a quick search online can return with pages full of golden handphones and cars, and even school supplies like bags and even staples. This precious metal gold is even said to be beneficial for the skin that they are even used in facials.
