Socialite Jamie Chua impersonated online, photos stolen by fake user

Singapore - Local socialite Jamie Chua, dubbed 'The Queen of Instagram' by The Sunday Times, has announced to her fans and followers yesterday afternoon that a user has impersonated her on Instagram, a popular photo-sharing application.

Using the 39-year-old's photo as the profile picture, the impersonator has created a profile under the same username 'ec13m' as Chua and even claims to be her private account.

Thus, Chua has posted an announcement on her account that she has changed her username, and warned her fans and followers not to believe this 'impersonation scam'. It is not known when she was informed of the impostor or if she is reporting this to the police. The fake account seems to be created recently and the user has started adding photos of Chua. One of the photos features Chua fully-clothed in a bathtub.

Chua, however, seems unfazed by the impersonation as she continues regular postings of her personal pictures.

Jamie Chua, a mother of two teenaged children, is one of the most popular Instagram personalities in Singapore, along with other socialites and local fashion bloggers like Sharel Ho and Yoyo Cao. She currently has over 105,000 followers and more than 2,400 photos posted online of her daily activities such as her shopping trips, travels and dining experiences with her friends and family. The highlight of her photos are her high fashion outfits paired up with a Hermes bag.

The Instagram fashionista was given a one-page feature on The Sunday Times in August where she gave a tour of her home, a bunglow on Merryn Road, and why she shares her personal life online. She revealed that her two maids assist her in photo-taking and that she enjoys sharing fashion tips to her fans and followers on the social media platform.

The fashionista also uses Instagram to keep track of her outfits, and helps her log which pieces were matched together. Chua is also aware of her two fan clubs on the photo-sharing platform, jamiechuafcsg and jamiechuafansclub, following her. The two accounts frequently repost her photos and provide a link back to Chua's main page.

In the interview, the former air stewardess told reporter Akshita Nanda that her photos on Instagram is 'just a small part of me'. She says the application helps her to stay in contact with her kids, Calista and Cleveland. Calista is studying in Singapore while Cleveland, the older of the two, is in Melbourne, Australia currently.

Chua is a regular at Singapore's high society parties and events. Other than her luxury shopping and fashionable wardrobe, she is also known for displaying her many Hermes bag on her Instagram account. Evening daily Lianhe Wanbao even called her the woman who owns "the most number of Hermes Birkin bags in the world"

The former Singapore Airline air stewardess was previously married to Indonesian businessman Nurdian Cuaca for more than 15 years before filing for divorce in 2011, citing 'unreasonable behaviour'.

During her high-profile divorce, Chua made headlines when she asked for a $450,000 monthly maintenance sum from her ex-husband. The maintenance sum was said to be the largest ever recorded in a divorce case in Singapore, reported The Straits Times.

The divorce was settled amicably in November 2011, said the English daily, to confidential terms.
