Singapore - The colder seasons of the year can bring about romantic inclinations. Autumn and winter are usually associated with layers, luxe materials and opulent designs; and there's no place that does old-school glamour better than Russia.
The rich influences of the culture, architecture and art of Russia run deep in Hong Kong-based high fashion label Moiselle's Autumn Winter 2013 collection. The country's national flower, the Chamomile, has been reincarnated into a chic detail through appliques, sequins and embroidery, adding a delicate feminine touch to the typically heavier materials used for this season.
Russians also enjoy singing and dancing. The Moiselle designers have taken the silhouettes of the traditional folk dancing costume - balloon skirts and puff sleeves - to create party dresses that move like a dream.
Opulent collars feature prominently in the collection - be it fur trimmed or embellished - and are always on display, even when the rest of the outfits is hidden under a coat. Images of a romantic Russian winterland are easily conjured up when you try on one of these lavish pieces.
This season, the label has also collaborated with well-known Hong Kong makeup artist Zing for a collaboration, Zing & Moiselle. Zing based each of the 33 pieces from the capsule collection on looks from the '80s and '90s - two decades that he feels personifies the definition of glam. Tweed jackets with pearl and gold buttons, leather tops and the '80s staple - the bodysuit - are part of the Zing & Moiselle collection.
The crowning glory of this collaboration has got to be a silk scarf with a print that features the lipstick marks of all the celebrities - like Zhang Ziyi and Shu Qi - that the makeup artist counts as clients.
The Moiselle boutique is at Shop B1-142, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. For more information on Moiselle, go to moiselle.com.hk.
