Alexander McQueen Jewellery: Bold designs with a natural edge
by Tan Zhiling, herworldPLUS|03 May 2013

Singapore - Alexander McQueen's Spring Summer 2013 jewellery collection focuses on the use of yellow gold for an elegant touch that echoes the golden "bee" theme of the ready-to-wear collection.

Dazzle with its Geometric Choker - a perfect circle of gold encrusted with either pure white crystals, or a wild mix of green, white, red, and gold gems; or go for a necklace with a Dragonfly Pendant crafted from yellow gold with intricate details on its lace-patterned wings.

The Spring Summer 2013 jewellery collection will also appeal to goth-rock chicks with its Two-faced rings - a golden skull with an unadorned right portion, while the left portion is speckled with shimmering white crystals.

The Two-faced is available as a pendant for the gold necklace, or as a silver-tone chunky ring.

For the "summer" part of the collection, Alexander McQueen shoves the quiet worker of nature into the limelight in a series of sensational designs.

The extravagant Tortoiseshell Plexi Neckpiece and Cuffs were spotted at the media launch of Alexander McQueen's Spring Summer 2013 ready-to-wear collection.

The Tortoiseshell Plexi mimics the rich swirls of dark honey, which sends bees into a frenzy.

The Crystal Bee Neckpiece also took the stage as a majestic display of bees hard at work. A glimmering piece of crystal is encased within the body of each bee, as it synchronises with its workmates in an organised choreography over their honeycomb palace.

Yellow or white gemstones represent the honey painfully harvested by bees, filling up some of the hollow chambers of the Honeycomb Choker (pictured below).

The Honeycomb Cuff is also a delicate network of hexagons, adorned with precious "honey" crystallized as yellow stones and the yellow-crystal body of the queen bee as she patiently awaits her minions.

Prices for the collection range from £170 (S$326) for the Two-faced Ring, £195 for the Dragonfly Pendant Necklace and £470 for the Tortoiseshell Plexi Cuffs, to £860 for the Tortoiseshell Plexi Neckpiece, £1,095.00 for the Geometric Choker and up to £2,245 for the Honeycomb Choker.

The Two-faced Pendant Necklace is £255, the Crystal Bee Neckpiece costs £1,720 and the Honeycomb Cuff price is unavailable.

Whether your preference is for geometric gold, rock-chick skulls or the glories of domesticated nature, the Alexander McQueen Spring Summer 2013 collection of jewellery is sure to have something to catch your eye.

The Alexander McQueen Spring Summer 2013 jewellery collection is available in Alexander McQueen boutiques and selected retailers worldwide.
