Sofitel unveils much-anticipated Karl Lagerfeld-designed emblem
by Shi Tianyun, herworldPLUS|11 June 2013

The buzz about the Chanel Cruise 2013-14 show that took place last month in Singapore has barely settled and Karl Lagerfeld is making yet another big splash in Singapore - this time by way of a luxury hotel.

Sofitel Luxury Hotels has unveiled the emblem exclusively designed by the legendary designer, for its latest project in Singapore ‒ the Sofitel So Singapore. Named "The Lion's Seal", Lagerfeld was inspired by the story of how the Lion City was discovered by the Sumatran prince, Sang Nila Utama. Legend has it that he named the city "Singapura" (lion-city) after spotting a lion. The emblem pays homage to the lion as a symbol of courage and dignity - the same values that will apparently "boost the boutique design hotel's drive to evolve the local hospitality scene".

"Singapore is an Asian powerhouse ‒ the city of the future. Stories of its history and evolution have inspired me, especially the discovery of the island and the mystical lion it was named after. The lion has historically symbolised courageousness, elegance and leadership ‒ attributes aligned to the visionary Sofitel So label. The Emblem is a result of that combined inspiration ‒ one that will be special to its guests, and special in the country," said Lagerfeld.

"The Lion's Seal" emblem and decorations inspired by its design will appear at prominent locations around the hotel and also across a range of exclusive objects (to be announced at a later date) - available to guests at Sofitel So Singapore.

Sofitel So Singapore at 35 Robinson Road is scheduled to open in mid-2013. For more information about Sofitel's So boutique hotels, go to eu.soboutique.com.
