It was an evening of glitz and glamour at Marina Bay Sands, as Gucci celebrated the official opening of its third boutique in Singapore.
It also celebrated the launch of The Bamboo Exhibition, a travelling exhibition dedicated to the iconic Gucci Bamboo Bag and its singular heritage.
Well-attended by over 500 guests, the much anticipated event was graced by Ms Mimi Tang, CEO of Gucci Group Asia Pacific, H.E. Anacleto Felicani, the Ambassador of Italy to Singapore, and his wife, Mrs Felicani,.
A-list artiste Jeanette Aw, who looked resplendent in a Gucci FW10 anthracite grey dress with black patent heels, was also present.
The evening began at the new Gucci boutique, where specially invited guests of Gucci arrived in chic fashion.
The beautiful guests were pampered with an endless flow of champagne and canapés, as they marvelled at the architectural splendour of the new 5,500 square feet store, which featured the design concept of Frida Giannini, Gucci’s Creative Director.
Giannini’s innovative design concept, which employs open space, warm luxurious materials and natural light to spectacular effect, is a departure from traditional codified fashion retail spaces, and paves the way for Gucci’s 21 century contemporary look.
Design highlights include signature Gucci materials of rosewood and marble, enhanced with the introduction of new elements such ribbed glass, warm polished gold, smoked mirror and smoked bronze glass.
The new Marina Bay Sands store is one of over 30 Gucci stores in the world to reflect the new design concept, following its successful roll-out in other key world cities including New York, Rome, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Macau and most recently, in Singapore at Paragon.
Guests were then invited to a guided walkthrough of the Bamboo exhibition.
Bridging the past and present, this travelling exhibition perfectly captures the duality of Gucci's rich traditions as well as its modern day allure.
It also traces the unique history of this 64 year old design and its place in fashion history, with a special display of vintage Bamboo bags from Gucci’s archives, alongside the "New Bamboo", a 21st century version of the classic handbag that has been reinterpreted by Gucci's Creative Director, Frida Giannini.
Also on display was a special showcase of 150 separate pieces of the Bamboo bag, which embodied the testimony of Gucci’s artisanal skill and commitment.
Archive photography of personalities, including Ingrid Bergman and Vanessa Redgrave, carrying the Bamboo throughout the years, and the production and advertising images of this iconic handbag were also exhibited, acknowledging the illustrious history of Gucci’s iconic Bamboo bag.
