Singapore - According to the fashion writers at The Guardian newspaper, the ballet flat (or ballet pump) was "so over"; at least, that is, until Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent Paris made them cool again.
The Saint Laurent Dance, the ubiquitous ballet flat, is a classic "ballerina shoe" says the brand, and "belongs to the Saint Laurent Permanent collection", that is, as part of the classics of the House of Yves Saint Laurent.
Adapted from the original design for dancers, to become the go-to shoe for everyday wear, the Saint Laurent Dance ballerina shoe is made of soft, smooth leather and has additional support; more than the original shoe.
There is a knotted bow in waxed cotton that matches the shoe colour in the classic version - there are six classic leather colours - and a variety of other trimmings on the shoes from the seasonal collections that will be based on the Saint Laurent Paris prêt-à-porter ranges.
Upping the cool quotient are the two "dance videos" that feature models Gracie Van Gastel - who is hula-hooping on a rooftop - and Lida Fox, a former dancer, who is stunning in her leather pants, chiffon shirt and black ballet flats dancing in a grungy warehouse; perfectly fitting into Slimane's Saint Laurent Paris vibe.
