Singapore - After more than two decades in the business, Zouk Club has added another feather to its cap by being recognised as the Best Nightspot Experience at the Singapore Experience Awards.
Head of marketing and events Timothy Chia, says the 22-year-old club sets itself apart from its rivals by consistently providing a mixture of world-class customer service, great drinks and a safe, comfortable and beautifully decorated environment for guests.
He adds: "The soundtrack to their night is provided by the world's best electronic dance music artistes on a world-class, 100 per cent analogue Gary Stewart Audio sound system. This happens week in and week out."
That is one key reason Zouk has been ranked number five in British magazine DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs global poll for the past two years.
Mr Chia says: "We constantly do research on global club, festival and event trends to make sure that we've got our finger on the pulse and are often the first to introduce such experiential elements to Singapore and to give our guests a clubbing experience that is world-class."
The process of creating an unforgettable experience for guests begins from the moment they step into the club, when they are warmly greeted by staff. The music syncs perfectly with the ever-changing lasers, lighting and visuals, and revelers are surrounded by fine art and quirky props such as metallic "fish" with lights in their eyes. The crowd often ends up staying on the dance floor till the lights come on.
The guest experience extends to their departure from the club, when floor staff, including security and valets, bid farewell to them. Guests who have driven to the venue and may be the worse for wear are recommended the use of the club's drive home valet service by the staff. "It's this sense of familiarity, of partying in a place that feels like home, that makes Zouk what it is and keeps the punters coming back week after week," says Mr Chia.
But the party goes on even outside the club - Zouk also organises some of the biggest and best clubbing events in Asia.
For example, the large-scale outdoor dance music festival ZoukOut has been running annually since 2000, and is often called Singapore's best party. Last year's edition attracted some 40,000 people over two days. Zouk also regularly organises outdoor shows for the likes of French DJ David Guetta and Dutch DJ Hardwell, drawing thousands.
But Zouk's ability to stay relevant after so many years, says Mr Chia, is down to a dedicated team of staff who take pride in their work. "They are never satisfied to rest on their laurels, but want to continually push the envelope while staying relevant and interesting. This is what has kept Zouk going for the past 22 years."
Tanjong Beach Club and The Vault, the two other finalists for the Best Nightspot Experience, also have plenty to offer their guests.
The three-year-old Tanjong Beach Club is an amalgam of restaurant, bar and urban escape. Mr Andrew Ing, chief operating officer at The Lo & Behold Group, which owns the club, says the club is "honoured" to be nominated alongside The Vault and Zouk. "Both establishments have great teams with decades of experience in the industry, so to be finalists along with them is a high compliment in itself," he adds.
Mr Godwin Pereira, co-director of Limited Edition Concepts, which owns The Vault, says: "More than just a bistro and a bar, we're a creative hub drawing a community of like-minded patrons together in the love for food, drink and art."
"Being shortlisted with the likes of established names like Zouk and Tanjong Beach Club is both a humbling and overwhelming experience for us as we're a brand that's barely two years old," says Mr Pereira.
